What is the Powerful Poets Project?
At Brent Mencap, we are proud to run the Powerful Poets project, a unique space where people with learning disabilities can express themselves through poetry. This group allows our members to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in creative and meaningful ways, using the power of words to make their voices heard.
Expressing Our Voices
In the Powerful Poets group, we write poems about topics that matter to us, like our personal journeys, hopes for the future, and the things we care about most. Each poem is a reflection of the person behind it, giving everyone a chance to share their story in a creative way.
Celebrating Achievements
Our poetry has been widely recognized and celebrated. In fact, our poetry collection, called Powerful Poetry, is proudly featured in the National Poetry Library—a great achievement for our group! Our poems have also been shared in the community, helping to raise awareness of the experiences and talents of people with learning disabilities.
Building Confidence and Connections
Beyond writing, this project helps people build confidence, connect with others, and feel proud of what they create. Poetry is more than just words—it’s a way for our members to show who they are, how they see the world, and what they want to change in it.
Join Us
The Powerful Poets project is open to anyone who wants to join and share their creativity. Whether you are new to poetry or have been writing for a while, we welcome you to come along, be heard, and be part of something special. Through our poems, we show that every voice matters, and every story is worth telling.
