Partnership Introduction

Brent Mencap wants to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities.

Brent Mencap cannot change things on its own. We have to work with partners.

We have to campaign and persuade. All our staff work with partners. All of our staff help to change things and campaign in different ways. We do this a lot at "strategic" meetings (where council plans are discussed). Sometimes we do this with individuals e.g. an employer who offers work experience or a neighbour who lives next to one of our houses. Sometimes we do it in our newsletter or by writing a letter.

Partnership Working - Achievements

• We developed good links with Brent Youth Service. This led to funding to integrate young people with learning disabilities into mainstream youth services

• We work with East Berkshire College to provide accredited opportunities for learners with learning difficulties / disabilities to develop independant and employability skills

• We developed stronger links with neighbouring local Mencaps – Barnet, Harrow and Ealing

• We developed strong links with London Region National Autistic Society (NAS)

• We encouraged the Brent Health Action Group to develop a WELREN research bid about Health Action Plans

• We continued our commitment to the Learning Disability Partnership Board and its subgroups

• We led the Person Centred Planning Subgroup with Kingsbury Hospital Day Services and Hillstream Care.

• We actively participated in a wide range of groups such as the Parent Partnership Steering group, the Early Years Childcare Development

• Partnership, the Adult Protection Committee, the Children with Disabilities steering group, the Transitions Working group, the NAS short breaks steering group, the Voluntary Sector Liaison Forum, the BRAVA board, the Adult Learners forum and many others.

• Our involvement in "Workable" a cross borough group chaired by Regenasis in Hammersmith and Fulham

• Our Involvement in Identification,Referral and Tracking (IRT) project management group

• Continuing joint work with Brent MIND over our shared premises
