Making Equality Real
Right now, only 1 in 10 people with a severe learning disability have a job, but most want to work. Only 4 in 10 people with a learning disability have a choice about where they live. These are examples of discrimination.
The government thinks that more should be done so that people with learning disabilities can enjoy the respect, equality and dignity that we all have a right to.
Brent Mencap has been chosen to help the government. We need your support to do this. Please help us to help you!
We have 3 big goals:
Goal 1: We will train your local service providers (including the Council, the NHS and the Police) so that they can give you a better service.
·We would like some people with learning disabilities to help us do this.
Goal 2: Listen to and give advice to people with learning disabilities if you have any problems with services, for example in the hospital.
·If you have been treated unfairly, you can contact Brent Mencap and we can help you.
Goal 3: Reduce discrimination against people with learning disabilities.
·We would like some people with learning disabilities to help to check if progress is being made.
We will let you know how the project is going. Thanks for joining in!
