Where Does Our Money Come From?

Some people think charities like Brent Mencap rely on donations to get money. We don’t. They also think National Mencap (sometimes called Royal Mencap) passes on money to us from collections or fundraising events. They don’t! if you would like to give us money, see the Help Us section on how to donate. 97% of our income is public money. It comes from Brent Council, Central Government or Europe. We have to write bids asking for the money. If they agree to give us the money, we have to shown them whether we spent it as we said we would.

One project can have up to 5 or 6 Funders! We are both a charity and a company limited guarantee.

Michelle and her team have to send off lots of information to the Charities Commission and Company House. They have to deal with paying staff and bills. They also have to send out information to our executive committee. They have to deal with callers and queries.
