Making Equality Real Project

Right now, only 1 in 10 people with a severe learning disability have a job, but most want to work. Only 4 in 10 people with a learning disability have a choice about where they live. These are examples of discrimination.

The government thinks that more should be done so that people with learning disabilities can enjoy the respect, equality and dignity that we all have a right to.

Brent Mencap has been chosen to help the government. We need your support to do this. Please help us to help you!

We have 3 big goals:

  1. We will train your local service providers (including the Council, the NHS and the Police) so that they can give you a better service.
  2. Listen to and give advice to people with learning disabilities if you have any problems with services, for example in the hospital.
  3. Reduce discrimination against people with learning disabilities.

We will let you know how the project is going. Thanks for joining in!

Brent Mencap is going to do some work with Brent NHS about learning disability.

We are looking for people with learning disabilities or their carers able and willing to tell their health related stories.

We want to find out what works and what needs to be improved.

Can you help with any of the following:

Are you a pwld and want to work as a trainer, want to tell people about learning disability, want to tell, your health related story, are interested in NHS User Involvement

It was created by parents in London, on the basis of their own experiences of what is needed by families where a parent has a learning disability.
